PRESIDENT ERDOGAN'S VISIT TO SOUTH AFRICA AND ZAMBIA

FOLLOWING IS THE PRESS STATEMENT ON PRESIDENT ERDOĞAN’S VISITS TO THE REPUBLIC OF SOUTH AFRICA AND THE REPUBLIC OF ZAMBIA: 

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan will attend the 10th BRICS Leaders’ Summit which will be held on July 25-27, 2018 in the South African city of Johannesburg, and will pay an official visit to the Republic of Zambia on July 28, 2018. 

Turkey has been invited to the “BRICS Plus” session, which will be held as part of the BRICS Summit on July 27, in its capacity as the Summit Chair of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). Mr. President’s attendance at the Summit will be the first high-level contact between Turkey and BRICS. 

On the occasion of his visit to the Republic of South Africa, President Erdoğan is also expected to hold bilateral meetings with the leaders of the BRICS member states and of other invited countries. 

Defined as the leading emerging markets, BRICS is a consultation and cooperation platform which consists of Brazil, the Russian Federation, India, the People’s Republic of China and the Republic of South Africa. These countries are also G20 members like Turkey. “BRICS Plus” is a process which BRICS launched in 2017 with the aim of boosting cooperation with rising markets other than its members, and with developing countries as well as international and regional organizations. 

Following his visit to the Republic of South Africa, President Erdoğan will pay an official visit to Zambia on July 28, 2018. 

On the occasion of his visit to Zambia, President Erdoğan is expected to discuss all aspects of bilateral relations with Zambia and exchange views on regional and international developments during his one-on-one meeting with President Edgar Chagwa Lungu and the meeting between the delegations. 

The visit has a historical importance since it will be the first presidential visit from Turkey to Zambia. 

Mr. President’s visit is expected to further improve and diversify bilateral relations between Turkey and Zambia.
